1977年に登場した「WAFFLE RACER」は、NIKEのランニングシューズの歴史を語るうえで欠かせないモデルのひとつ。開発のきっかけとなったのは、共同創業者ビル・バウワーマンの独創的な発想でした。1971年、より優れたグリップ力を持つシューズを模索していた彼は、妻バーバラ氏が使っていたワッフルメーカーの格子状の模様に着目。ソールの試作にワッフルメーカーを使っていたところ、型がくっついて開かなくなってしまったという逸話も残されています。この発想から生まれたワッフルソールは、ランニングシューズの進化に大きな影響を与えました。本作は2019年製。ナイロンとスウェードを組み合わせたアッパーに、グリーンとイエローのビビットな配色が懐かしさまで感じられる一足。左足つま先に若干汚れがありますが、その他の状態は良好です。

The “WAFFLE RACER,” introduced in 1977, is one of the essential models in the history of NIKE running shoes. The impetus for its development came from an ingenious idea by co-founder Bill Bowerman. In 1971, while searching for a shoe with superior traction, he noticed the grid-like pattern on the waffle iron his wife, Barbara, was using. There’s even an anecdote that when he used the waffle maker to create a prototype sole, the mold got stuck and wouldn’t open. The waffle sole born from this idea had a major impact on the evolution of running shoes. This pair was made in 2019. With an upper that combines nylon and suede and a vibrant green and yellow color scheme, these shoes have a nostalgic feel. There is a slight stain on the toe of the left shoe, but otherwise, they are in good condition.
